
Jason Cook Manager and magician of the Artlab will take part in Festival Scopitone 2012 (Nantes, France) from September 18th to 23rd. He will run a workshop, present his artwork Object Avatar and take part in a conference.
Workshop: At Insula, during Friday 21st September, Jason will run a workshop dealing with "Creative Robotics". The workshop access is free and restricted to 15 persons, you just have to sign up here. Attendees will improve their robotics basic knowledge by working on the creation of a remote controlled puppet. The workshop will take them through the technics and devices required to control motor units according to body moves. Many sensors, motor units and other reactive devices will be introduced to the attendees. The topic of wireless communications will also be tackled to learn how to remote controlled objects.
Who can attend ?
Students, digital professionals, scientists and teachers, artists, enthusiasts...
Requisite : basic electronics knowledge, basic Arduino and/or Processing knowledge (or at least C digital language knowledge), laptop with the free Arduino software.
Project presentation : Thursday 20th September, from 5pm to 6:45pm will take place a conference about "Robotics, a social technology". Anthropology, cognitive sciences, robotics, digital arts... Artists and researchers will discuss together humans-robots interactions and some "social" features of robotics.
After this conference, several projects will be introduced, one of them is Jason Cook's Avatar Object. Jason will present both the technical and the artistic outlooks of his creation.Avatar Object is a robotic hand made of big majestic feathers. A glove geared with several sensors and a radio communication system enables the user to see the moves of his/her hand repeated by the hand made of feathers. He/She remote controls the robot and gives to his/her hand moves a brand new dimension.
