EDITORIAL :

INNOVATION IS AN ART…

Nowadays, the Internet and mobile phones play a great part of our daily lives; borders between reality and virtuality have vanished: for better or for worse, we have all become “digital addicts”. In the midst of this digital revolution, new media artists are appropriating technologies, hacking them, transforming them, inventing new uses and opening up a critical space.

In this 6th issue, we are focusing on contemporary artists whose practices, labelled as emergent, have managed to be presented in museums and galleries; those who, like Maurice Benayoun (on the front cover), were never “afraid of using technology; in order to push the latter as far as possible, to understand its limits, to overcome them and perhaps, act as an antidote…”

With this current issue of the magazine and the digitalarti.com site, we are following the artists through their creative process of production and diffusion. We also have coproduced a few works as limited series, such as RADIO2067 by David Guez, in partnership with Tivoli.

As a partner of international festivals on innovation like South by South West (in Austin, USA) or Futur en Seine, (from June 17th to June 26th), this year, Digitalarti will present two prototypes
in Paris: Capture by Grégory Chatonsky, a permanent rock group that creates new songs by gathering words from the Internet and composing generative music; and Blue Window (provisional title) by Electronic Shadow, a system of hybrid windows, physical objects opening onto a networked virtual world.

Our editorial policy has been focused on contemporary art and innovation. These are the artistic and scientific explorations we aim to share with you.
