Microscopes, magnifying glasses, mini macro cameras, mirrors, shadow
play, blinky lights, computers, video mixers, little rotary
motors,doodles on a graphics pad, nobbing in an algorithmic effect or
two and any other image tricks to bend, warp, overlap, dissolve, or
scrutinize textures, objects and patterns of life-The Lumiaks
(Angie Eng and Sofi Hemon) perform live video with experimental composer, Jean Jacques Palix.
Also joining them the same evening, Les HautsdePlafond.
Sof Hemon is a visual artist who presents her work in various forms including: boxes,
maps, installations, booklets, book art and performance. She shows her works in
France and internationally. (Brazil, Bohemia, Germany). Her work is concerned with form variations
and hybridizations. In her art process, she introduces tools such as optics,
mirrors, microscopes and lenses,
to distort images and brings dimensional aspects to the foreground.
Her creative process combines: writer / musician / scientist /
cinema director. She was awarded a grant from the Fondation La Ferthé for her exhibition at the Arts Museum
of Ceara Federal University. She performed art actions on art laboratory sites:
at Alpendre in Fortaleza and at Torréao in Porto Alegre. From 1996 to 2002 she collaborated with Catherine Jackson in a
magazine/zine project called “Notes Bulletin de Liaison”. In another duo with
Brazilian artist Erica Zingano,
she explores digital poetry on-line, In 2006 she was invited to the French
Institue of Prague in Czech Republic to present her exhibition RECTO VERSO. In
this installation, she explored shapes created out of its inner space. Presently, Sofi Hemon works with the musician Ollivier COUPILLE on
performative sound/image installation. They will present their project at the
Sound Symposium of St-John's Newfoundland in 2012.
Jean-Jacques Palix is a composer for stage, archivist, lover of rare musics, sounds hunter.
After his radical productions in the experimental “Radio
Nova” in Paris as a charter member in the early 80's,
according the artistic context he is collaborating
with contemporary dance, art exhibitions, movies, video, public
events and fashion shows. In 1992 he founded an independent record label, free of classification
and published several records with David Coulter, Eve Couturier,
Jeff Rian, Vincent Segal ...Regularly, he gives lectures and conduct vocal concerts, noise events
and sound installations in fine arts and architectural schools.
He produced and directed "Conférence sur rien", a 52 minutes
film around a french reading version of John Cage’s
“Lecture on nothing“. In 2007, he composed 33 musical
tributes for 33 famous composers for an exhibition at Galerie In Situ /
Fabienne Leclerc in Paris. In 2009, he directed the movie "This disk is
the same as the other one", shown in international film festivals
(Rotterdam International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival …)
.He is co-curator of the exhibition "Cornelius Cardew and the freedom of
the listening" at CAC de Brétigny sur Orge (France) (shown at
"Künstlerhaus Stuttgart" & "Culturgest" in Porto in
2010). Musical direction of "The Living Currency" event in Warsaw and Berlin Biennale in 2010.
