About Still Living:
The still living series of visual installations revolves around the concept of living graphics : graphics using immediately readable visual codes - pie-charts, bars, curves, etc... - but animated by the same internal forces that they are supposed to describe. The sign and the thing become one. Each artwork is infinite and autonomous, a particular delicate situation : a still life, but living.
With this new setup, my main intention at the level of my personal practice is to approach the subject of the living, the human and the nature of reality in a fresh and new way. Also, at the artistic level, this series allows me to explore in a more precise manner the "aesthetics of the action" that programming as a material enables. Finally, still living takes a voluntarily political stand by making the living pulsate under the ubiquitous charts of our daily life.
These installations are designed to be exhibited in public or exhibition space, on individual screens or projections of human size, in a sober and minimal way : business style.

About Antoine Schmitt:
Artist, programming engineer and designer, Antoine Schmitt has developed a singular pluridisciplinary artistic practice around the creation of programmed shapes. His artworks, minimal, abstract and efficient, tackle contemporary or intemporal themes like the condition of free being, the systems of reality or the forces and their shapes. Using techniques from artificial life, intelligence and physics, combining randomness and constraints, Antoine Schmitt creates objects and situations, physical, visual or audio systems, generative or interactive, which question the modalities of the free human in a complex world. He places programming, a medium that he considers radically new because of its active dimension, at the core of most of his artworks. Also, Antoine
Schmitt, alone or through collaborations, has undertaken a confrontation of this langage with more established artistic fields like music, dance, architecture, litterature or cinema, of which he revisits the codes. He has this collaborated with Vincent Epplay, Jean- Jacques Birgé, Atau Tanaka, Anne Holts et Jean-Marc Matos, Alberto Sorbelli, Joana Preiss, Juha Marsalo…
His work has been awarded in numerous international festivals : medi@terra (Athens, 1999), Interférences (Public Jury, Belfort, 2000), transmediale (Berlin, 2001), International Festival of Video-Dance (Paris, 2002), Vida 5.0 (Madrid, 2002), machinista 2003 (Russia), CYNETart (2004 Dresden), transmediale.07 (Berlin, DE), Ars Electronica (Linz, 2009). and has been shown among others at the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, 2002, 2004, 2006), at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (1999), at Sonar (Barcelona, 2002, 2004, 2005), at Ars Electronica (Linz, Austria, 2003), at the CAC of Sienna (Italy, 2004), at the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon (France, 1997), at Villette Numérique (Paris 2004), at Slick (Paris, 2006, 2007). As theorician, speaker member of jury and editor of the gratin.org portal, Antoine
Schmitt explores the field of programmed art. Antoine Schmitt lives and works in Paris (FR).
