ART LAB: INNOVATION AND THE ART OF RUPTURE
The Three Princes of Serendip tells the story of three men on a mission who, along their path, find clues that seem to be unrelated to their aim but are actually essential.
These princes receive rewards (marriages with beautiful princesses, kingdoms, wealth, etc.) as a result of their accidental discoveries. This tale, inspired by episodes of the life of Bahram V, King of Perse, has given us the notion of serendipity: the accidental discovery of something that is not sought.
We had not sought the works gathered in the first Digitalarti catalogue but their discovery has given us the desire to co-produce or distribute these unique pieces and limited series. So as to stretch this adventure towards innovative creation, we have just opened an Art Lab /artlab facility for digital artists.
Thus, in the heart of Paris, in September, Digitalarti is inaugurating its new premises with a showroom to exhibit its catalogue and an Art Lab /artlab: we have invested in computer equipment, machines with digital controls and "à la carte" grey matter skills for artists. A first workshop program has already been set up:
> "Physical computing" on electronics, manufacturing, and interactivity.
> " 3D Software ", stereolithography, resin printing, initiation to SKETcHUP…
> "Introduction to a 3D printer”.
> "Art & media", current trends in AV devices, robotics, biotechnology, immersive
virtual reality …
> " Art Lab /artlab initiation."
We have just obtained a Joint Committee number for our online press activity.
In future issues of the magazine, we will dedicate special features to innovation: whether it be from the innovators themselves, innovation managers within major
international companies or key events in the field.
In the current issue, we are presenting an analysis on the economic success of the first "art and innovation" festival: Ars Electronica in Linz. We invite you to discover artists such as UVA or Incite/ for audiovisual performances, Lynn Hughes for video games, the Bains Numeriques event in South Korea, feedback from the Venice Biennale and the Agora festival at Ircam.
We have also transcribed a summary of the first symposium organized with the Drouot auction house during the Futur en Seine festival: What market for digital art?
Definition, circuits and market value. Finally, you are invited to the digital art selling exhibition we are running as part of the FIAC art fair at the Amusement gallery of the Gaité Lyrique.
Feel free to publish your news on the community. The magazine aims to put forward the most active contributors whose information is being relayed in our monthly newsletters. Please send your comments, questions and suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org or post them directly on the website at
