An exciting new digital art exhibition for Ironbridge Gorge Museums in Shropshire!

From 23rd March 2012 visitors to the Ironbridge Gorge Museums will be able to visit a free entry digital art exhibition created by renowned international artist Kurt Hentschläger. Visitors to CORE will experience a whole new digital world.

This world-class piece of art forms the next generation of the Chicago-based artist’s generative 3D and audio work. Located within the historic surroundings of a blacked-out Victorian Engine Shop this audiovisual artwork has been created using a number of inter-linked projections. The result is a series of virtual aquariums containing dynamic bodies in extreme motion whose movements are neither predictable nor repeated. These identical humanoid figures interact both instinctually like schools of fish or flocks of birds and at other times they appear choreographed like ballet dancers or synchronised swimmers.

Kurt Hentschläger’s work has been shown in a number of major international exhibitions including:

• The Venice Biennale;

• The National Art Museum of China in Beijing;

• Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam

• PS1-clocktower, New York.

In 2010 he received the prestigious QWARTZ Electronic Music Award in Paris.

CORE forms part of the London 2012 Festival where leading artists from all over the world will come together in the UK’s biggest ever nationwide festival. Over 1000 events will take place across the country with more than 10 million free opportunities for people to get involved through dance, music, theatre, the visual arts, film and digital innovation.

Follow our blog to get behind the scenes information as we work on promoting and preparing for the opening of this fantastic exhibition which will be opening for the first time anywhere in the world!

About Ironbridge Gorge Museums

The Ironbridge Gorge Museums - The Ironbridge Gorge Museums

Once described as "the most extraordinary district in the world", the Ironbridge Gorge is still a remarkable, and beautiful, place to visit today. A huge amount of early industry survives as furnaces, factories, workshops, canals and the settlements of Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge, Jackfield and Coalport.

There are ten award-winning Museums spread along the valley beside the wild River Severn - still spanned by the world's first Iron Bridge.

See the products that set industry on its path and the machines that made them. Watch and talk to the Museums' craftsmen and costumed demonstrators as they work iron, fashion china and glass, and bring alive the people who lived and worked here.

CORE is the first art exhibition on a large scale that has ever been exhibited at the Museums so this is an exciting venture for us all as we want to discover new audiences, interest our existing visitors and make CORE a huge success!
