Ars Electronica in Linz, September 2-11 : huuuuuuugeArs Electronica changes each year to invest other parts of the city of Linz in Austria in addition to their beautiful Ars Electronica Center along the Danube. This year, the festival benefits from a huge empty industrial complex: the Tabakfabrik. A large set of half a dozen buildings, all together around 80.000 m2 (ie around 860.000 square feet) detailed in the enclosed map. In this space, the digital artworks breathe in an unusual way. Several pieces have more than 500 m2 (ie more than 5300 square feet) of display space each in empty industrial floors: these include Chapter I: The Discovery from Spanish artist Felix Sanchez or the splendid animation from Japanise artist RyochiKurokawa (cover of the first issue of our Digitalarti Mag). I found here some well-known works such as the one from our friends Lab[au] (picture above) but mainly many new discoveries. I arrived only yesterday mid-afternoon and saw only a small part of this vast complex. The center, a set of tables and bar / self service provides a friendly atmosphere reminding me of the Ososphère festival in Strasbourg with its nights including multiple music scenes, digital artworks and a pedestrian area with bars in the middle.
So much to discover, I have to go back. Ars Electronica did set the bar very high this year! 03.09.2010 | malo's blog Cat. : AGENDA ars electronica Festivals Agenda
