Digital Art Festivals guide out now!

The new digital art festival guide is out, with more than 350 international festivals listed, from may 2010 to April 2011. This 4th edition published by MCD is bilingual (english - french).

Save the date…

It’s never easy to organize a successful event, whether it’s a private party or a festival that can keep a whole team busy throughout an entire year. You need a conjunction of favorable circumstances, some of which may not be entirely in your control: Besides the quality of the line-up, the technical equipment, the place and date that have been chosen, the ambiance (the price of drinks, the queues, etc.)…, you have to take into consideration such factors as the weather (with possible cancellations for outdoor performances), other current events including football/cricket/basketball games (depending on the country), strikes... That's why, in this guide, MCD has chosen to pay tribute to the 350 organizers who take the risk to organize festivals all year round, in France and all over the world.

Our selection of festivals is highly diverse. For fans of electronic music, with the onset of summer, music is once again stepping out of the clubs and taking over the temporary autonomous zones which, in Europe, have replaced raves and freeparties. On the other hand, digital art exhibitions tend to take place in dark places, away from bright lights, the better to appreciate the installations, slides, performances, live A/V, augmented reality, ledArt, google art, twittArt, rfidArt, and more… Numerous international festivals bring together both electronic music and digital art: Ars Electronica in Linz, Transmediale in Berlin, Elektra in Montreal, STRP in Eindhoven, Zero1 in San Jose, File in Sao Paulo, Bains Numériques & Seconde Nature & Scopitone & L’Ososphère & Némo in France… even in the heart of the French countryside, with the Fées d’hiver in Embrun, and Désert numérique in Saint-Nazaire-le-Desert.

The fourth edition of this digital festival guide lists 350 festivals according to their geographical location in France and abroad, under 4 distinct categories: digital art, electronic music, experimental, and "various” (some festivals mix pop and electronic musics, rock and digital art). This annual agenda, covering May 2010 to April 2011, also includes a number of reports on festivals from preceding years.

MCD editorial team would like to thank the artists upon whom the quality of these events depends, as well as all the festivals and partners who have supported the creation of this guide.
