VA VA VOOM, a radiophonic ride, by CÉCILE BABIOLE
This sound show will be premiered at thePlateforme 73 rue des Haies 75020 Paris, on 10 october at 6 pm, then radio-cast that night at 11pm on France Culture.
A ride to the realm of rumbling reverb and other Doppler effects, where engine tuning and sound design mesh with pop culture and high-tech research. The sounds of engines have inspired musicians of every stripe, from Kraftwerk’s synthetic pop (on Autobahn) to Ministry’s industrial metal (Jesus Built My Hot Rod). Conversely, auto aficionados and mechanics may lend a musical ear to the purring, humming and revving of engines.
Listening cuts both ways.
Produced by Marie-Laure Ciboulet for the Atelier de création radiophonique on France Culture, a radio broadcast by Frank Smith and Philippe Langlois.
