I find the work and passion of Canadian sound artist and researcher R. Murray Schaefer incredibly powerful and inspiring. When he was writing back in the 70s it was already obvious that the noise of machines was becoming an uncomfortable and dangerous side effect to human development. In his seminal text ‘The Tuning of the World’ (1977), Schaefer writes: ‘We may speak of natural sounds as having biological existences. UVA invests the Gaîté Lyrique, a new major art center dedicated to digital art, with a large installations all over the entire building.

These two big musicians know each other since 30 years and are used to share thoughts about philosophy, music, sexuality, etc. They decided to have a public conversation for the Gaîté Lyrique opening.

Messa di Voce (Ital., "placing the voice") is an audiovisual performance in which the speech, shouts and songs produced by two abstract vocalists are radically augmented in real-time by custom interactive visualization software. The performance touches on themes of abstract communication, synaesthetic relationships, cartoon language, and writing and scoring systems, within the context of a sophisticated, playful, and virtuosic audiovisual narrative.
Locustream Promenade is a sound art installation by Locus Sonus composed of sonic beams (10 parabolic dishes equiped with sound speakers and small computers). The parabolas are suspended in the public space in such a way that a visitor only hears the sound from the beam when he or she is directly underneath it. Each beam plays a different stream from the Locustream project. The live streamed sounds are soundscapes coming from remote locations through the Internet.
