I work a little on Mac, and then I get a PC,
and that’s when I discover Director and,
uh….. and then the language Lingo. And
then VRML, uh… which back then was a
program that let you do 3D in real time,
um… on Internet. Now there’s a, there’s
something speaking to me […] I mean like
there were these uh… pieces of VRML art
work uh… that um… I mean, I said art
work, it was work in VRML actually that
wasn’t very [cough] wasn’t very ambitious
but hey I said to myself it’s interesting
because you can you can uh… you can put
things like that on line, little 3d objects,
uh… they would be um… free.

Arts and Media Laboratory - PanthéonSorbonne Paris 1 University. Joined the team
around 2000 after doing the programming/
graphic design of a DVD-rom for the
Anarchive collection (headed by Anne-Marie
Duguet) about Nam-June Paik. Since then,
various research activities, for example
I led a line of research on The meaning and
use of computer programming in Art which
was supported by the Délégation aux Arts
Plastiques (Fine Arts Delegation), and
I organized two international symposium:
Art oriented programming (2004 and 2007).
Simultaneously a teacher at PanthéonSorbonne Paris 1. Courses on the history of
the art/ IT relationship from the 60’s to our
time and hands-on training (accelerated
initiation to Processing, Pure Data,
Arduino…).

The question of mingling/ juxtaposition
seems to be an old cybercliché which
reminds me of films like The Lawnmower
Man or Matrix. If you spend just one weekend in a LAN party or if you watch people
on the Paris metro with their 3G cell
phones, you’ll realize that the fusion is
absolutely in the here and now. At an ARC
(Research and Creation Workshop Program) in Nancy, we try to feed off of these
clichés to create productions that are often
full of iron

Je fais un peu de Mac, j’arrive sur PC et là
sur PC je découvre Director et euh…… et
puis notamment le langage Lingo. Et puis
le VRML euh… qui était un langage qui à
l’époque permettait de faire de la 3D en en
temps réel euh… sur Internet. Donc là
c’est un, c’est quelque chose qui me parle.

qui me fait penser aux films comme Le
Cobaye ou Matrix. Il suffit de passer un
week-end dans une LAN party ou de
regarder les voyageurs du métro avec
leurs mobiles 3G pour constater que le
fusionnement est d’une absolue actualité.
Dans l’ARC de Nancy, nous essayons de
rebondir sur ces clichés afin de mettre en
place des productions, souvent ironiques
